Cake Budget was built in the US, and most of its bank connections come through Plaid, which only covers the US and Canada. Since September 2026 you can connect a bank in the UK or Europe too, through a separate service called Lunch Flow, and see your budget in pounds or euros. This page is the honest summary of what that looks like today.

What works

Bank connections for banks in the UK and the EU, through Lunch Flow. Lunch Flow uses regulated open banking providers, so most high-street and online banks are covered. Check their coverage page for yours.
Pounds and euros on screen. When your first connected account is in GBP or EUR, Cake Budget switches its display currency to match. You can also set it yourself in Settings under Appearance. The symbol carries into emails and AI chat.
Everything else works the same: slices, rules, funding schedules that split a paycheque into slices, Safe to Spend, insights, and chat. Transactions from a UK or EU bank land in the same list and follow the same rules.

What it costs


Cake Budget	From $9 a month, billed in US dollars by Stripe. Your card converts it.
Lunch Flow	From £4.99 or €5.49 a month for up to 4 bank connections, paid to Lunch Flow.

A Lunch Flow connection doesn’t use one of your Cake Budget plan’s bank connections, so the Starter plan is enough for one UK or EU bank.

What’s different from a US setup

Transactions arrive once a day, not within seconds. Lunch Flow refreshes from your bank daily, and Cake Budget syncs from Lunch Flow daily, with a Sync now button you can use once an hour.
Pending transactions don’t show. Only posted transactions come through, so a card payment appears when it settles, usually a day or two later.
Consent renewals. Open banking rules in the UK and EU require you to re-approve access every few months. Lunch Flow emails you when a connection needs attention. Renew it on Lunch Flow’s site and the next sync carries on.
One currency per budget. Balances stay in each account’s own currency, but Safe to Spend adds every included account together as one number. A budget that mixes pounds and dollars will add them as if they were the same. Keep one budget to one currency.
Number formatting follows the US style: £1,234.56, not £1.234,56.
Two accounts to set up: one at Lunch Flow, one at Cake Budget. The connection takes about 15 minutes the first time. There is no SimpleFIN account involved, even though the token goes into a box labelled SimpleFIN.

Setting it up

Follow How to Connect a Bank with Lunch Flow. In short: connect your bank in Lunch Flow, add its SimpleFIN Bridge destination, generate a setup token, and paste it into Cake Budget on the Connect Your Bank step during onboarding or under Settings afterwards.

Common questions

Q: Can I pay Cake Budget in pounds or euros? A: Not yet. Plans are priced and billed in US dollars. Most cards convert at a small fee.

Q: Does the 14-day free trial work outside the US? A: Yes. The trial is the same everywhere, and you can connect a bank through Lunch Flow during it.

Q: What about Australia, New Zealand, or elsewhere? A: Lunch Flow also covers New Zealand, Brazil, and parts of Asia, and the same steps apply. Australia isn’t covered by Lunch Flow yet. Display currency is limited to USD, EUR, and GBP for now, so amounts from other currencies show with one of those symbols.

Q: Are dates and categories localised? A: Dates use your browser’s locale. Categories come from your bank through Lunch Flow, which doesn’t send them, so transactions start uncategorised until a rule or your own edit assigns one.
