One line
Cake Budget is envelope budgeting with the upkeep automated, built for people with ADHD.
Two lines
Cake Budget is envelope budgeting with the upkeep automated: paychecks split into virtual envelopes on payday, transactions categorize themselves, and a traffic-light Safe to Spend number answers "can I afford this?" at a glance. Built by a neurodivergent founder for people who know how to budget but can't sustain the maintenance.
One paragraph
Cake Budget is a budgeting app for people who understand envelope budgeting but can't keep up with it. Instead of asking users to sort transactions and move money by hand, it detects each paycheck when it lands (even a few days early) and splits it across budget categories called slices. Rules sort spending as it syncs from the bank, and the home screen shows one Safe to Spend number, colored green, amber, or red, so deciding whether something is affordable takes a glance instead of math. When someone signs up, Cake reads their recent transactions and proposes a starting budget, rules, and a payday plan to review, so setup is a review rather than a blank page. It was built by a solo founder who is neurodivergent, and it's designed around executive dysfunction rather than discipline.

What makes it different
The upkeep is automated
Most envelope apps ask users to assign every dollar by hand. Cake detects paychecks (fixed schedules or irregular gig income) and funds each slice automatically.
One number, color coded
Safe to Spend is account balances minus everything set aside in slices. It shows green, amber, or red against thresholds the user picks.
Setup is a review, not a blank page
After a bank connects, Cake reads recent transactions and proposes slices, sorting rules, and a payday plan. The user keeps what fits.
Designed around executive dysfunction
No streaks, no scolding, no backlog to clear after a bad week. The budget keeps running whether or not the user opens the app.
What it doesn't do
- No net worth or investment tracking. This is deliberate: the app answers "what can I spend" and nothing else.
- No native app in the App Store or Google Play. It's a web app that installs to the home screen.
- Built-in bank sync covers the US and Canada. Other countries connect through a separate paid service or CSV import.
- Cake never moves real money. Slices are virtual envelopes on top of existing bank accounts.

About the founder
Fisher Adelakin (they/them) is the solo founder and developer of Cake Budget. They are neurodivergent and have bipolar 2, and built Cake after years of budgeting apps that assumed the same focus and follow-through every day. They used it for their own money for more than two years before opening it to others.
Fisher lives in the Bay Area with their partner, two cats, and two dogs, and answers support email personally.
