The Upcoming Calendar
How to use the month calendar on the Upcoming page: what each day shows, how past days work, and how far it looks ahead.
The Upcoming page has two views of the same forecast. The list groups what’s coming by window. The calendar lays it out by day, so a whole month reads at a glance without opening anything.
Open the calendar
- Go to Upcoming.
- Use the List / Calendar toggle at the top of the page.
Cake remembers which view you picked. The choice is also in the page address (?view=calendar), so a bookmark or a shared link opens the same view.
What each day shows
Every day cell lists what lands on that date, with the amount:
- Paychecks from your funding schedules and detected income, shown as money in.
- Recurring bills and subscriptions Cake has detected from your transactions.
- Bill slices due that day. A slice that is already fully funded reads ready instead of an amount.
- Auto-contributions scheduled to move money into a slice.
Amounts inside a cell are rounded to whole dollars, and on narrow screens anything over a thousand shortens to a form like $1.2k. Tap a day to open it and see every entry with cents.
A cell shows up to three entries. If more land on one day, tap the day to see the full list.
Past days
Days that have already happened show what you actually spent. Tap one to see the transactions behind that total, including which slice and category each one landed in. That makes the calendar a quick way to answer “what happened last Tuesday” without filtering the Transactions page.
How far it goes
You can move three months back and three months ahead.
- Further back, the spending totals are not loaded.
- Further ahead, the forecast is a projection from schedules and detected patterns, and Cake doesn’t show it once it stops being trustworthy.
What feeds it
The calendar uses the same sources as the list view:
- Funding schedules for expected paychecks.
- Recurring slices with target dates for bills due.
- Auto-contributions for scheduled moves into slices.
- Detected recurring charges and subscriptions from your transaction history.
If a paycheck or bill is missing from the calendar, it’s missing from those sources. Add the schedule or the recurring slice and the calendar picks it up.
